Writing Workshop JACKPOT and FREEBIE!!

Before I jump into my "Writing Workshop Jackpot" ...I want to talk about my latest Halloween creation!

The holidays are fast-approaching my friends, and we all know that for the teachers in the world, holidays don't mean fun office parties and sophisticated gift exchanges. To a teacher the holidays mean 30+ kids hopped up on all types of sugary goodness and costume parades with costumes that you have to help zip, tie, buckle, and button. Those beautiful classrooms that you teach your children to treat like their homes?? That's funny! Most years I can't even see the floor after our holiday fun!

I learned very quickly that when it comes time for the holiday festivities, if you can't beat 'em JOIN 'EM!!! Let's not forget the days leading up to and after a holiday as well. I mean, could you fight through a candy coma?

This year I can't wait to tie in our Common Core persuasive writing with Halloween!! I typically spiral my writing all year long, as I fit many of my Common Core writing standards into other subjects like science and social studies, but the holidays are the BEST time for writing.

We are finishing up our narrative writing unit (see below), and we are going to quickly move into writing to persuade Halloween style! I have created this activity seen below and you can learn more about it HERE.

In this activity I made some super cute posters that will hang in our room that teach my students the persuasive techniques of ethos, pathos, logos, bandwagon, testimonial, and slogan!

Each poster is in a Halloween theme to add to my super cute sparkly pumpkins I scored from the Target dollar spot last week!!

I've also included 6 prompts that can be printed on colorful posters or on small strips to pass out to students, planning graphic organizers, clip art to dress up your Halloween hallway or classroom display and more!!

Here is a quick look at the black and white paper version of the publishing pages with the adorable Halloween themed clipart that is included:

Fun scrapbook style colored publishing paper is included too!! I may try to print the colored paper at home because they make the display look so much more festive!

Take a look below at some of the awesome things included in this pack, I can't wait to start this next week!!!!

Don't forget about my 2 Halloween math products too!

Writing Decimals Task Cards and Memory Matching Game {Halloween Themed}

Since we are in the writing spirit, I wanted to share a freebie, and the source of the freebie with you all.

I posted a picture of an anchor chart I made in my last post found HERE. I finally got around to uploading it and wanted to give it to my (few) fabulous readers as a freebie!! My kids struggle so much with writing GIANT disconnected stories vs. small seed moment stories, so we spent a lot of time on this concept. I posted these writing workshop posters up in our room, and printed them off for students' writing folders.

The content of my posters comes from THIS WEBSITE. Click the link to check it out!

When I found this website a few years back, I felt like I had hit the jackpot. I'm sure everyone knows about this website because it has been pinned all over Pinterest, but if you haven't you better go check it out!! It is AMAZING with writing units GALORE! Writing can be tough to teach because it is not so black and white, and my kids are always so different in terms of their writing each year. So, the more ideas I can add to my collection, the better!!

Grab this freebie by clicking HERE or the picture below!

To check out some of the incredible writing lessons from the website above, follow my pictures below.

When you go to this district's main site, you have options to explore literacy or math. I'll walk you through the website to get you to the awesome literacy resources!

First, click literacy either at the top of the page or the bottom.

Once you click the literacy option, at the bottom of the page you will see buttons that will take you to the website's different resources. Click on Writer's Workshop button to explore the writing goodies.

Once you click on Writer's Workshop, you will be taken to the page below. In order to find the lessons, click on Planning Your Writer's Workshop.

Once you click on Planning Your Writer's Workshop, you can click on the button shown below. This will lead you to a great PDF document that outlines different aspects of Writer's Workshop. You can also click your grade level's year long trajectory. This is a loose curriculum map created by this district.

The best resource on this page (in my opinion!) is the sample units by grade levels!! Click your grade level button...

...and you will be taken to a page with all of these incredible writing units and mini-lessons!

Trust me when I tell you that I haven't even scratched the surface of this incredible website! I could spend hours on here looking through the great resources!
