Open House Goodies and A Classroom Tease!!

Oh yes my friends, we are back in it. Talk about going from 0 to 60! AHH! This lady is TIRED!

We had our open house/meet the teacher night. I had SUCH an awesome turnout! I am SO excited because I have a super sweet group of 5th graders this year! I absolutely love meeting my kids on open house night, and I always think it is HILARIOUS how shy they all are. Yes, those big, bad 5th graders get all bashful and quiet and cling to their parents too! I always say give those shy, quiet students about 2 weeks.  ;)

I wanted to share with you this AMAZING idea I got from Reagan over at Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits. She is a genius, and I kind of wish I was a student in her class! ;)

HOW AMAZING ARE THESE SIGNS???!!!! (Please excuse the very sad bulletin board in the back. I am tired, but it will be up soon!) I totally can't take credit for these, as they were all her idea. I just modified them a bit and made them for my own class.

The night went off without a hitch because of the signs, I swear it! It can be so tough to greet families at the door, then go talk to a group of students, then direct parents on where to go, then answer questions, then AHH!!!

These signs were posted all throughout my room in a station like format with directions and a "job" at each one. The parents were so excited about them and I received so many super nice compliments! Can't complain!

I have attached a PDF form of the actual signs I used this evening for you to grab as a freebie, HERE!!

AND because of the sweet requests, you can click the editable powerpoint HERE (the fonts are normal computer fonts so that everyone can see the writing!) in order to create your own!

Of course, I put up my super cute "Welcome Sign" that you can grab for free HERE!

I did have a few families that were unable to make it. In order to stay SUPER organized, I made sure that I didn't put anything to the side or in a file cabinet. Instead, I set out papers in a manilla folder RIGHT AWAY. This way I will have all of these students'open house papers in one place. They are tucked away in a folder so that none go missing. I can simply send this whole folder home with the student on the first day of school!

One more thing that I set out for my families was this scavenger hunt. I have seen so many awesome classroom scavenger hunts, but I was having a hard time finding a school-wide one. It's hard to have an entire class of students and parents in your room for an hour. This scavenger hunt is perfect because it lets the students and parents get out to mingle with other families and it is a great opportunity for students to "show off" their school and introduce their parents to some fellow staff members! My kids loved it! I always give the students that complete the scavenger hunt a little prize too.

Here are a snapshot of the scavenger hunt, and you can click HERE to grab it for free!

I had FULL intentions of giving you all a full-on classroom tour this evening, but literally as I was snapping picture number 2, a family showed up super early to say hi (due to a football game!). In true fashion, I gulped my Red Bull, threw my apple in the trash and went into full on Open House mode! It's how we do it right? So, here are TWO tiny pictures for you, and we can call it a SNEAK PEAK for when I can really take some pictures and show you all! Enjoy!!

How many amazing bloggers have this rug?! I went out and bought it the second it came out! It's the HOT new trend!! ;)

...and of course, the dinner of CHAMPIONS. I KNOW you can relate!

Yuck! This lady is off to eat some dinner (yes at 9:00pm) and get to BED!
