In my TeachersPayTeachers store you will also see the huge Classroom Procedures/Routines/Behaviors Packet that I created. I am so big on front loading my kids with all of these things because as many of you know...it leads to a FUN, ENJOYABLE, RELAXING (for the most part?!) year when your kids know what is expected of them.
But, to take a break from practicing all of those lovely routines, you have to build in rapport. You have to create that classroom community, and most importantly, you have to have fun with your kids. Being an upper-elementary teacher (or I guess just being a TEACHER) I know the importance of being funny (at least I try), being "hip" (at least I try) and CONNECTING to my kids. I am sure many of you fab lower-el teachers can say the same...but has anyone taught both lower and upper? Is there a difference? I feel like I joke around more with my "fifths" vs. when I student taught with "firsties"??? If I can get out there and play those silly "ice breaker" games with them, they will respect me more, and love me more...and as a result, behave better and care about their learning.
